While documenting the past two weeks, I realized a few things…
- Significantly dialing back the noise-to-signal ratio does wonders for the mind. Sometimes I lose sight of what is truly important to me, though I think everyone has experienced that at one point in time. A little calibration is required, nothing too crazy.
- A cup of coffee made perfectly can foster an unexpected, yet brief real moment of peace. I do my best to be mindful of the manipulative energy of synthetic dopamine hits to the brain… had me chasing things that really have no intrinsic value to my life.
- Over the past few months, I’ve realized that I no longer enjoy living in Hollywood or in a regular apartment. Eventually would like to snatch up a live/work artist loft (large, open-wide space) near some semblance of earth… the endless external concrete wears you down a bit. I hear Silverlake might be a better locale overall.
- Over the past month, I’ve been able to rehab my ankle injuries to almost 100% after a fall the day I literally moved in to my first studio apartment out here (back in November 2021) and after multiple false starts or reinjuring along the 2.5 years I’ve been out here.
- Making small moves to get my physical, mental and financial health back on track. Life throws you some crazy curve balls and all you can do is recenter and persevere through the bullshit. Things get a bit more complicated when an assortment of external influences are compounded, though that just means more focused work ahead (and on the horizon) to get back on track.
- Began cutting music video footage from 10+ videos, a few of which date back to the ‘Through Soundwaves’ collabs with @mamadoomband… not to mention footage filmed from’Se7en’ and ‘Just Drive’. Not going to say when any of it will “officially” drop, just that it’s in the pipeline and will eventually see the light of day after the edits, pickups and the Version 2.0 mixes/masters of the catalog.
- Somehow in the chaos of my life, I’ll drop some old-school merch designs (Dislocate / Martyr Art) later this year along with a least a kick-off episode of JD’s Mnemonic Radio show on Spotify.
